How it works

1. You forward a recent Sunday letter to a friend over 40.
2. They reply to that forwarded email with "in" and their email address.
3. We add them to the Sunday letter and send both of you the next 3 letters at no charge to either of you.

That is the whole mechanic. No tracking links, no leaderboards, no points to redeem. We trust the honor system; we read every reply personally; the system works because our readers are adults.

Why we do it this way

The single highest-trust referral source for an editorial publication is a friend forwarding an email with "you have to read this." Algorithms and ads cannot replicate that. Reader referrals account for somewhere between 40-60% of new subscribers for most reader-funded magazines.
